DPP

Study Title: A randomized, crossover study to evaluate the acceptability of an over-encapsulated dual prevention pill (DPP capsule) containing pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and a combined oral contraceptive (COC) pill versus two separate tablets (PrEP and COC) among adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) at risk of HIV and unintended pregnancy in Harare, Zimbabwe

Protocol summary:

The study is aimed at answering the following research questions: (1) What are the factors that determine preference for taking a single DPP capsule (PrEP plus COC) once daily or taking 2 separate tablets (a PrEP tablet and a COC tablet) once daily among AGYW? (2) What factors may affect acceptability of taking the DPP capsule versus two separate tablets once daily to prevent HIV and unintended pregnancy among AGYW? The objectives of the study are to (i) To determine preference for taking a single DPP capsule (PrEP plus COC) once daily or taking 2 separate tablets (a PrEP tablet and a COC tablet) once daily among AGYW at the end of 24 weeks after using each regimen for three 28-day cycles. (ii) To assess the acceptability of taking the DPP capsule versus two separate tablets once daily to prevent HIV and unintended pregnancy among AGYW who use each regimen for three 28-day cycles. The study participants are Thirty (30) healthy, sexually active, HIV-seronegative, non- pregnant AGYW aged 16-24 years old (inclusive) who are using COCs as their contraceptive method and are at risk of HIV.
